David Diaz II (Dave) grew up in Derby, Kansas and graduated from Wichita State University in 2005 with a degree in Music Education. He started his career as a band director at Prairie View Schools in La Cygne, KS. During his first year of teaching, a group of fellow band directors pushed him—half joking, half serious—into joining the Kansas Army National Guard Band.

In the summer of 2006, he shipped out for basic training, and that marked the beginning of a completely new direction for him.

Military service had always been something Dave wanted to pursue, especially after 9/11. His childhood left him with the belief that he was simply not tough or smart enough to make it in the military. In fact, he didn’t even believe he was smart enough to go to college. There was one high school counselor who would not take “no” from Dave on going to school, so he relented and took a shot at community college.

That decision fundamentally changed what Dave thought of as options for himself. After a year of community college and realizing it was not as hard as he expected, he switched to 4-year school. At Wichita State, he became a top-performing student, joined the McNair Scholars program, published research, and found a sense of direction and value through the church. More importantly, it helped him realize he was capable of far more than he had assumed.

After completing basic training, Dave relocated to Kansas City and spent time substitute teaching while searching for a full-time band director position. At the same time, the pull toward full-time military service never went away.

He ultimately decided to pursue a commission as an active-duty officer in the U.S. Air Force. Over the next 10 years, he served around the world, built lifelong relationships, and developed as a leader in ways he hadn’t thought possible.

In 2019, Dave transitioned out of the military to spend more time with his wife and three children. As he prepared for civilian life, he sought advice from other veterans and was introduced to Cameron-Brooks, a firm that helps military officers transition into business careers.

Their guidance was straightforward: with a music degree and a complex military background, his best path to a strong income was in sales.

Dave leaned into that challenge. He joined Tech Qualled, an organization focused on training military professionals for sales careers, and was placed at Cerium Networks in Billings, Montana, where he began his career in technology sales.

In 2026, Dave took the next step and launched VectorLine Group. Drawing on his experience in sales, leadership, and relationship-building, he set out to build a recruiting firm focused on helping great companies build great sales teams.

Like every stage of his journey, Dave approached this new venture by learning from people who had already done it. Through Dimensional Search, he surrounded himself with experienced operators and continues to refine his approach.

His perspective is simple: if you’re willing to ask for help and do some work, there are always people out there who want to help you go further than you thought possible.
